08/06/2026
BauNOW project allowed Geres to contribute to the creation of a local voluntary carbon market through the following actions:
• Identification of local projects with carbon reduction potential on the pilot area, including filed visits and the creation of a varied projects portfolio to promote them to funding bodies: micro forests plantation, new almond orchards, first solar-powered restaurant – le Presage, Energy poverty alleviation projects, support towards soft mobility, reuse in construction…

• Study on carbon demand to identify the levers and barriers of stakeholders to fund local decarbonization initiatives: 240 companies of varied profiles answered the questionnaire. Among respondents who have heard of financing climate projects through the purchase of carbon credits, 77% are interested in a local contribution scheme. And most respondents believe that local authorities are the legitimate actors to lead such an intermediation structure to facilitate investment in local carbon projects.

• Awareness raising and capacity building of local stakeholders on carbon finance, with the objective to stimulate new offering for the upcoming local carbon contribution scheme: organisation of a round table in cooperation with the local authority and relevant players involved in territorial cooperation, intervention at a local industry event, on-demand technical support for evaluating new carbon methodologies opportunities.

In parallel, the process of setting up the cooperative structure to support the local contribution mechanism is underway and on track. A meeting is foreseen in June with prospective members of the structure’s governance.
